Single Malt American Whisky - Batch 34

Details

Distiller: Copperworks
ABV: 52%
Age: No Age Statement
Paid: $79.00

Tasting Notes

N: Honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, leather, freshly-shaved pencil, clove, cherry, blackberry. A hint of campfire.

T: Toasted marshmallow, vanilla, campfire, roasted nut, citrus zest. Wet earth after a spring rain. The charred oak barrel adds a nice sweetness.

F: Medium length. Oaky sweetness intermingles with earth, herb & spice, ash, and a surprising briny note as this slowly fades.

Conclusion

The new oak imparts flavors that make this dram reminiscent of a good bourbon, but the excellent Copperworks malt adds a campfire-y complexity that makes this really interesting. A nice intermingling of traditional flavors and a unique earthiness that I have to assume comes from the local Skagit Valley peat.

This tastes like a beach campfire after a rainy spring - and I can't think of anything more Seattle than that. Highly recommended!
